Baby colic is a common condition (1 in 4 babies) with a lack of effective treatment. A growing body of evidence points to the role of the infant’s gut with low-grade inflammation and altered gut microbiota found in most colicky babies.
Pre and postnatal factors such as mode of birth, feeding type, gender or order in the family do not seem to influence the onset of colic. Hence, colic is typically characterised by the intensity and frequency of fussy/crying episodes and other clues related to the baby’s behavior.
