A Gut Approach to Altered Mood, Behaviour and Neurodivergence
The Roots of Altered Mood and Behaviour
The gut and brain continuously communicate with other, either optimally to support a happy, emotionally balanced child or becoming dysregulated, which can led to emotional meltdowns, focus or sleep challenges. The vagus nerve enables communication both ways, impacting digestion and our capacity to respond to stress and adjust to changes.
The brain relies on essential nutrients, and a well-balanced diet can enhance mood, cognition, and behaviour. The gut plays a crucial role in overall function and well-being—not only aiding nutrient absorption but also producing beneficial compounds that support brain health.
Link between the Gut and ongoing Mood, Behavioural and Digestive challenges
A Gut Approach to Neurodivergence
If you are raising a child with autism, ADHD or another form of neurodivergence, you may sometimes feel overwhelmed by the number of challenges your child is facing. Digestive issues, selective eating, sensory sensitivities, emotional dysregulation, poor sleep and behavioural difficulties can often seem unrelated, leaving parents unsure where to focus next.
Many neurodivergent children experience gut-related challenges such as constipation, bloating, reflux, food sensitivities, feeding difficulties and changes in the gut microbiome. These issues can influence how a child feels, learns, regulates and interacts with the world around them.
The Gut Approach to Neurodivergence programme is designed to look beyond symptoms and explore the underlying factors that may be affecting your child's wellbeing. By combining nutritional therapy, functional testing where appropriate, feeding support and nervous system regulation, we create a personalised plan that supports the whole child.
The programme is built around three key principles:
Clarity – understanding what may be contributing to your child's symptoms and identifying the most important areas to address.
Calm – introducing manageable, personalised strategies that support gut health, nutrition and nervous system regulation without overwhelming the family.
Confidence – empowering parents with practical tools, knowledge and support so they can make informed decisions and feel confident in helping their child thrive.
Every child is different, and there is rarely a single cause or solution. However, when we support the foundations of health, we often create new opportunities for better digestion, sleep, emotional regulation, learning, communication and overall wellbeing.
My goal is to help remove some of the obstacles that may be making life harder than it needs to be, so your child can reach their full potential and your family can move forward with greater clarity, calm and confidence.

Before the consultation
Parents complete a detailed health questionnaire. This helps me gain an understanding of your child’s health history and ensures that we can avoid discussing sensitive topics in front of the child.
I kindly ask you to talk to your child beforehand. It can help to set the right expectations and make him/her feel at ease when they first come.
Both parents are welcomed to attend. However, to maintain focus and minimise distractions, I recommend leaving siblings at home during a consultation.
During a consultation
Consultations take place on a floormat, sitting on a child’s desk while they are drawing or playing with soft toys or the plinth.
On the floormat, I am able to observe and recognise body language which can provide helpful insights. On the plinth, I am able to show parents helpful exercises.
Establishing trust and ensuring the child's comfort are essential. Therefore, I approach children with a compassionate, non-judgmental attitude, avoid the use of technical or medical terminology, ask questions that encourage curiosity, and respect their pace.
Consultations are interactive in nature, involving a thorough exploration of the symptoms, hands-on therapy, and time allocated to address any questions or concerns from the parents.
