This homemade probiotic coconut yogurt is super-easy to make. It will save you money (some of the shop-bought brands are dear). In addition, you will be avoiding the most common preservatives in commercial yogurts (such as benzoates, sorbates or carrageenan), which can affect your healthy bacteria.
The main hurdle around this homemade probiotic coconut yogurt is to get your head around the fact that you need to wait patiently for about two days to get to try it!
It is key to use a full fat 80-85% coconut milk for a creamier result. Consequently, you may need to read labels and search in several stores to identify the best coconut milk brand available in your area.
Another essential tip is to make sure the probiotic supplement you choose to use has a mix of bacteria in it for greater fermentation rather a single-strain of probiotic bacteria. I can assure you if you do it this way, your homemade probiotic coconut yogurt will yield more probiotic-rich effect in your gut than any product in the market!
Finally, here is a money-saving tip. Make sure to reserve 2tbsp of the yogurt for the next batch. That way you do not need to keep adding probiotic capsules.

Homemade Probiotic Yogurt
Equipment
- 1 airtight container glass, preferably
Ingredients
- 1 can full fat coconut milk with a minimum of 80% coconut fat extract
- 2 capsules probiotics 4 capsules if using a children's range
Instructions
- Mix the coconut fat with the water in the can until you get the right texture. Add the probiotics and stir well.
- Pour it into an airtight container and keep it away from direct sunlight for about two days. You may stir from time to time. By the end of two days, it should have gone thicker and sourer (a sign that the healthy bacteria are eating away and fermenting the natural sugars in the coconut milk).
- To stop the fermentation process, place it in the fridge. It can keep for up to 5 days.
